Longtime educator Sister Elizabeth Doyle, OSF dies

Aston, PA — Sister Elizabeth Doyle, OSF, (formerly Sister Elizabeth Joseph), 98, died in Assisi
House on April 3, 2018. Sister Elizabeth worked in the Archdiocese of Mobile for five years,
serving as cafeteria manager at Most Pure Heart of Mary School in Mobile.
Sister Elizabeth had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 77
years. Much of her ministry was in education. Her roles included serving as Superintendent of
Schools for 12 years for the Diocese of Pensacola/Tallahassee.
In 2010, Sister Elizabeth moved to Assisi House, the congregation’s retire- ment residence in
Aston, Pa. She served there in prayer ministry until her death.

All services were held at Assisi House in Aston, Pa., on April 11. Burial was at Our Lady of Angels
Cemetery in Aston.
Sister Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Lawrence Doyle; nieces and nephews; and by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St.
Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.

Spring Hill’s Give Day raises more than $230,000
MOBILE — Spring Hill College’s fourth annual Give Day exceeded its fundraising goal, bring- ing in
gifts totaling more than $230,000 from 692 donors. Give Day 2018 began on March 19, the feast day
of St. Joseph, the patron saint of the college, and concluded 18 hours and 30 minutes later –
significant to the year Spring Hill was founded.
Incentive challenges were offered throughout the fundraising event to academic divisions, athletic
teams and campus life groups and named scholarships for reaching goals such as most gifts given and
most creative social media post. More than $38,000 was awarded in incentives to 21 different
groups.
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations reported that, of those participating in Give Day
2018, 62 percent are alumni of the college. The college also benefited from the generosity of a
significant portion of new supporters, with fourteen percent of total partici- pants being
first-time donors. Twelve percent of faculty and staff donated on Give Day, a five percent increase
from the previous year’s event.

St. Michael Parish in Auburn hosting Ignatian Prayer Day
AUBURN — All are invited to a day of prayer, reflection and discovery based on the spirituality of
Saint Ignatius of Loyola from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Satur-
day, April 21 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Auburn. Focusing on how God is present in the world
and active in everyday lives, the Ignatian approach is a Scripture- based, Spirit-empowered pathway
to deeper prayer, good decisions guided by keen discernment and an active life of service to
others. The day will include presentations and periods of silent reflection and prayer followed by group reflections. The sessions include music and guided meditation.

Presenters from Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center in Atlanta include executive director Maria
Cressler and Sarah Otto, as well as musicians Karen Thomas and Kay Satterfield. Cost is $25 per
person ($15 for students) including lunch, snacks and materials. Preregis- tration is strongly

St. Serra Club to host priest/seminarian golf tournament
MOBILE — The St. Serra Club of Mobile will host its annual golf tournament for priests, deacons
and seminarians in the Mobile area at the Spring Hill Golf Course on Monday, May 14. Priests and
seminarians play for free. Deacons and club members play for $35. The cost for nonclub members is
$55. Each priest will be provided with a sleeve of golf balls for the event. The day starts under
the pavilion on the eastside of the clubhouse (use the Dauphin Street entrance) at 11:30 a.m. with
a lunch of “Dew Drop” hot dogs, chips and beverages for all.
The golf starts at 12:30 p.m. with four-man teams and a shotgun start. With the scramble format,
all skill levels are welcomed. Everything ends before or around 5 p.m. Playing golf is not required
but please RSVP by May 8 for lunch.
The St. Serra Club of Mobile promotes and supports vocations to the priesthood and consecrated
life. Membership is open to Catholic men and women. The Club meets the first Friday of each month
at St. Pius X Catholic Church after the 6:30 a.m. Mass. Luncheon meetings are at the Visitation
Monastery the third Monday of the month at noon. Please consider joining.

Mobile ACCW spring quarterly meeting set for May 9
MOBILE — The ACCW spring quarterly meeting will be Wednesday, May 9. The sponsor of the meeting is
St. Mary’s Altar Sodality and the meeting will be at Corpus Christi Parish, 6300 McKenna Dr.
Mobile, Alabama 36608.
Registration begins at 9:15 a.m., with the meeting beginning at 9:45 a.m. Mass is at 11:15
a.m. and lunch will be served immediately after Mass.
