St. Ignatius fifth-grader Anna Beth Gibney wins spelling bee

By The Catholic Week
St. Ignatius Catholic School fifth-grader Anna Beth Gibney was among the youngest spellers at the 56th annual Mobile/Baldwin Catholic Schools Spelling Bee, but it didn’t stop her from winning this year’s bee on Feb. 6 at St. Pius X Parish’s Sarto Center.
Anna Beth showed off her superb spelling skills and correctly spelled “ecologist” in the championship round to win the title and earn a spot in the state finals March 9 in Birmingham.
Anna Beth was one of 11 spellers from Mobile and Baldwin Catholic schools who qualified for this year’s bee. Congratulations to all of them!
