MOBILE — Sr. Cecile de Jesus Serpas, L.S.P., a native of New Orleans and a resident of Mobile, since April 9, 2002, died at the age of 85 at the Sacred Heart Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor on Nov. 30, 2019.
Sr. Cecile made her first profession of vows as a Little Sister of the Poor on Dec. 10, 1955, and spent 64 years of dedicated and loving service to God in the person of His elderly poor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Nancy Serpas, and is survived by her nine religious sisters in Mobile as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from the chapel of the Sacred Heart Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor. Interment is in Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, Alabama 36695.
Drexel Society holding annual Women’s Symposium
The Mobile Chapter of the Drexel Society will hold its annual Women’s Symposium on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020 at St. James Major Catholic Church’s parish center. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the symposium beginning at 9 a.m.
All are invited.
The theme is “Essential Work of Women in a Broken Society: Evangelization, Poverty and Stewardship.”
Speakers include Mrs. Arnetta Lambert Sims, Mrs. Julie James and Dr. Michelle Dennis.
A continental breakfast during registration and lunch following the symposium are included.
