The future residents of Portier Place, Mercy Medical’s new independent residential community for active seniors was blessed by Fr. William Rewak, S.J. and Msgr. J. Edwin Stuardi, chaplain of Mercy Medical.
Edmundite Brother Daniel J. Magness, assigned to the Edmundite Missions House in Selma, died after a brief illness.
Rev. Msgr. Guido Calleja, a native of Malta, celebrated 40 years in the priesthood with a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Mobile.
Sister Angeline Hauser, O.P., who served as an elementary teacher at St. Joseph Tuskegee, died in Dubuque, Iowa.
Frank Simms, head coach of the Spring Hill College baseball team and three-time District Coach of the Year, was named the school’s athletic director.
Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb announced that Pope John Paul II had appointed Fr. David O. Tellier a monsignor.
Sister Joan Murphy, O.P., was appointed associate director of the archdiocesan office of religious education.
