FAIRHOPE — The St. Michael Catholic High School boys’ cross-country team captured the school’s first state championship by winning the Class 3A title at Oakville Indian Mounds Cross Country Course on Nov. 9.
The Cardinals were led in the 5K run by its three seniors: Michael Garriz, who finished seventh overall at 17:15 (a new school record), Jack Phelps, who finished 8th, running 17:21, and Nick Berrios, who finished 15th, running 17:39.
They were followed by Tripp Miller in 18th place and Edward Cowles at 23rd, John Davis at 25th, Andres Christiansen at 31st, Luke Berrios, Dyson Crooker and Hunter Stevenson.
All 10 boys ran personal bests in the event, with an average team time of 17:36.
