MOBILE — In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the State of Alabama, Cathedral Parish, Mobile blessed a 200-year time capsule at its 10:30 a.m. Mass on Dec. 8.
Msgr. Michael Farmer, the former rector of the Cathedral, and Msgr. William Skoneki, the current rector, worked with Mr. Ferris Stephens of Birmingham on the project. Mr. Stephens had the time capsule designed and constructed to last for 200 years, along with collecting many of the items that were included.
Among the artifacts placed in the approximately 3-cubic-foot capsule were recent editions of “The Catholic Week,” Cathedral parish bulletins, books on the history of the Cathedral, Portier House and the parishes of the archdiocese, Bibles, hymnals, an archdiocesan directory, numerous photographs, holy cards and other items.
The time capsule will be placed underneath the Cathedral once a plaque describing its purpose and contents is attached.
