Mrs. Nellie R. Gunn and Mrs. Lucy Thomas were pictured modeling gowns made as part of their sewing training under the direction of Mrs. Addrean Blackmon and Mrs. Jerelyn Sharpoe, instructors of Adult Education Program at St. Jude Parish in Montgomery.
The Alabama State Senate highly praised Archbishop Thomas J. Toolen in a resolution passed unanimously. The commendation was presented to the Senate by State Sen.William McDermott.
Bernard Diamond, Jr., was presented the Knight of the Year Award for Council #666, Knights of Columbus.

The Archdiocese of Mobile received a building grant of $35,000 from the Catholic Church Extension Society to help build a rectory for St. John the Evangelist Church in Butler.
Edmundite Fr. Raymond M. Poirier, who served in the Archdiocese of Mobile from 1941-1946, died in an automobile accident in Vermont.
State Dep. Charles D. Hedrick installed Phillip W. Cross as Grand Knight of Council 666 of the Knights of Columbus in Mobile. Other officers were J. Allen Duffy Jr., deputy grand knight; David A. Galloway, chancellor; Chris Kern, advocate; Richard F. Sweet, treasurer; Greg Williams, recorder; James W. Sumrall, warden; Elgin A. Duley and H. Vaun Oberkirch, inside guards; Paul Cannell, outside guard; James T. Wall, Ellis V. Ollinger, Jr. and Thomas E. Cain, trustees; and Very Rev. G. Warren Wall, chaplain.
Sister Irene Hoale, C.S.A., died in Fond du Lac, Wis. Sister served several years in the Archdiocese of Mobile.
The Rev. J. William Harmless, S.J., was chosen Teacher of the Year by the students at Spring Hill College.
St. Mary of Loretto Class of 1954 gathered for their 40th Reunion. Committee members of the Reunion were Bunny McGinn, Gwen Lilly, Dee Philips and Helen Hadden
Sister Bernice Kavanaugh, a Benedictine sister and religious education teacher at Our Lady of Loretto Parish, Ft. Rucker, celebrated her diamond jubilee of religious vows.
Serran, seminarians and priests of the Archdiocese gathered with Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb for the annual summer gathering at Romar House in Orange Beach.
The J. Allen Duffy Jr. family were awarded The Family of the Year Award by Knights of Columbus Council 666.
