For The Catholic Week
Catholic Social Services Pregnancy and Adoption Services assists pregnant women or those who have children under age two through 2B Choices for Women in Mobile and To Be Options for Women in Robertsdale. They provide free pregnancy tests, pregnancy support, parenting classes and material assistance in Mobile, Chickasaw, Bayou La Batre, Robertsdale and Foley. While most clients are women, they encourage fathers to participate by accompanying the mother or coming on their own to receive parenting support.
2B Choices and To Be Options will present “Respect Life Recital,” featuring violinist Matthew Madonia at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at Corpus Christi Banquet Hall.
The event is sponsored by Mobile Catholic Physicians. Madonia is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Madonia of St. Ignatius Parish. Madonia has a strong commitment to the pro-life movement because of his father’s work with 2B Choices for Women. Dr. Madonia has been an OB/GYN since 1983. He has been a wonderful asset to 2B’s program and clients. Following the example set by his father, Madonia is using his musical talents to help those in need.
Madonia is a Mobile native and graduated from St. Ignatius Catholic School, then McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in 2008. In preschool, Madonia started showing interest in the violin. During his childhood he played with Bay Area Strings, Mobile Youth Symphony and Alabama All State Orchestra.
Madonia is a Michuda Music Scholar and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician around the world. Presently, he performs with several Southeast Texas orchestras and is orchestra director for the Houston Independent School District, which brings music education and orchestral programs to the city. In Houston, he is a freelance violinist, touring with artists such as Sarah Brightman, Il Divo and Josh Groban.
Accompanying Madonia is Steinway artist Dr. Robert Holm, head of the piano division at the University of South Alabama as well as being professor of Music. He is principal pianist for the Mobile Symphony Orchestra.
