The Catholic Week

MOBILE — Nearly $100,000 was raised Aug. 9 to support the 21 Archdiocese of Mobile seminarians at the second annual Seminarian Summer Gala at Corpus Christi Parish in Mobile.

About 30 priests from throughout the archdiocese donned aprons and served as waiters for the dinner. Proceeds raised will go  toward seminarian education as it costs about $50,000 for one year of a seminarian’s formation.

“These seminarians are very special to me,” Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi told those in attendance. “I do look upon them as my spiritual sons in all that entails in the father-son relationship. … They’re awesome guys and I’m proud of each one of them. And I give thanks to God for our priests and pray that you come to look upon (the seminarians) as your sons too, so that one day we will call them our Fathers. Our priests.”

Patrons enjoyed a meal that included seafood gumbo, gulf shrimp, beef filet, arugula and baby greens, bananas foster made by Fr. Johnny Savoie and Fr. Pat Arensberg’s Limoncello.
